Rodeo Kick-Off at My Place Early Learning Center!

February is almost over, and that means it’s time for one of our favorite Texas traditions, Rodeo Season!

At My Place Early Learning Center, we love bringing local culture into the classroom in fun, age-appropriate, and meaningful ways. Our Rodeo Kick-Off is more than just boots and hats, it’s a full month of hands-on learning, creativity, and Texas pride!

Learning the Texas Way

Throughout the month, our students will explore the rodeo theme through:

• Farm and ranch animal discovery

• Western-inspired art projects

• Gross motor “gallop and stomp” activities

• Early math with counting boots and animals

• Sensory play inspired by the ranch

• STEAM-based building and exploration

From toddlers to preschoolers, each classroom participates in activities designed specifically for their developmental stage.

Literacy & Language

We incorporate rodeo-themed books, vocabulary, and letter exploration into daily circle time. Children are introduced to new words like barn, horse, boots, and lasso, while strengthening early phonemic awareness and listening skills.

STEAM & Exploration

Rodeo month is a wonderful opportunity for hands-on learning:

• Building corrals and barns

• Exploring light and shadow with toy animals

• Testing “strong vs. wobbly” structures

• Sensory hay bins and ranch-themed art

Our goal is always to blend play with purposeful learning.

Social-Emotional Growth

Through pretend play, role-playing, and cooperative activities, children practice:

• Sharing and turn-taking

• Following directions

• Working together

• Building confidence

We love watching their imagination grow as they become cowboys, cowgirls, ranchers, and rodeo stars!

Dress-Up Fun

During this time we have Rodeo Dress-Up Days! Children are welcome to wear boots, bandanas, jeans, and western-inspired outfits on designated days.

Why We Celebrate Rodeo

Celebrating local traditions helps children:

• Build community connection

• Develop cultural awareness

• Strengthen pride in where they live

• Engage in meaningful, real-world learning

And most importantly, they have SO much fun!

We are excited for Rodeo Season full of learning, laughter, and Texas-sized memories. Thank you for being part of the My Place family and for supporting your child’s growth every step of the way.
