Benefits of Progressive Coding in Childhood

At My Place, we make STEAM programs part of our everyday curriculum. These programs include progressive coding, which is something we teach to all of our children. Read on to discover the benefits of progressive coding in childhood.

What is progressive coding?

Progressive coding goes further than simply introducing fundamental coding concepts to children. It also builds on those coding skills with increasingly complex activities to help children learn in a fun and engaging way. The progressive coding process involves using pattern recognition to show problems in different ways. It breaks these problems down into logical parts and creates the necessary steps to solve these problems.

Here are some of the ways we build progressive coding into our education at My Place:

  1. Qobo, a robot that glows, moves, sings, and dances according to puzzle cards recognized by a reader underneath the robot

  2. Fisher-Price®Think & Learn Code-a-pillar Twist™, a preschooler-friendly toy that allows children to program a route for the caterpillar by twisting dials

  3. Root, a robot that drives and moves according to drawn and erased lines

  4. Ozobot, which can be programmed to follow patterns on a surface.

Benefits of progressive coding in childhood

We know that technology is part of our daily lives – from our smartphones to our appliances to our jobs. Our world runs on tech, and it will keep doing so. Teaching progressive coding in childhood helps kids successfully navigate their world and build strong foundations for their future career and daily lives.

Studies show that progressive coding teaches skills for future success. It also helps to develop the following skills:

  1. Math

  2. Reading

  3. Spelling

  4. Problem-solving

  5. Resilience

  6. Creativity

  7. Planning

  8. Organizing

We’re proud to tech this vital skill to our children, and watching them have fun with coding is highly rewarding. Check out this video of our students enjoying progressive coding technology!

At My Place Early Learning Center, we provide a trend-setting progressive coding curriculum that allows your child to learn through playing. Students will learn the basic foundation of coding through patterns, colors, and sequencing. We’re proud to offer STEAM programs and technology as early as our Toddler program.

Why teach progressive coding in preschool and Pre-K?

At My Place, we believe progressive coding gives children a head start for the future. Our educational programs prepare our students to successfully navigate their world with progressive coding.

Progressive coding involves using pattern recognition to present the problems in different ways while logically breaking them down into parts and creating the steps needed to solve them.

Studies show that progressive coding strengthens skills in math, reading, spelling, and problem-solving.
